On 20 March 2024, Asian Law Bulletin (ALB), announced their first China Top 15 Insolvency and Restructuring Lawyers, and JunHe Partner YANG, Li was selected.
Mr. Yang has specialised in insolvency and restructuring practice since 2007 and has vast experience in the bankruptcy and reorganization of listed companies, the mergers and bankruptcies of enterprise groups, out-of-court debt restructuring, and insolvency acquisition. Mr. Yang, alongside his JunHe colleagues, has handled a number of projects and cases that have had significant influence in the market, such as:
1. The substantial consolidated bankruptcy reorganization of 20 companies including DONGYING FANGYUAN NONFERROUS METALS CO., LTD., in which JunHe acted as the head of the administrator. The project was named “Deal of the Year 2022” by China Business Law Journal and selected as a “2023 National Classic Bankruptcy Case” (Nomination Award) jointly sponsored by eight institutions including the Editorial Board of the People's Court Journals.
2. The bankruptcy reorganization of Guangdong Rongtai Industry Co., Ltd. (a listed company), in which JunHe acted as the head of the administrator. The case took less than four months from the court's decision to initiate pre-reorganization to the ruling that the reorganization plan had been completed;
3. The bankruptcy reorganization of Xiamen Xiagong Machinery Co., Ltd. (a listed company), in which JunHe acted as the deputy head of the administrator. The case was selected as one of 2019’s Top 10 Typical Cases by the Fujian Provincial Higher People's Court.
4. A lawsuit brought by the bankruptcy administrator of Hipad Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. against the Jiangxi Branch of a Chinese bank for the revocation of an individual repayment, in which JunHe acted as the defendant's lawyer. The courts of the first and second instance rejected the plaintiff's litigation requests.
After 17 years of practice, Mr. Yang has continuously improved his professionalism and comprehensive abilities. As a director of the East Asia Insolvency and Restructuring Association (EARA), Mr. Yang has participated in exchange events among insolvency practitioners from China, Japan and South Korea for many years. According to Mr. Yang, an excellent bankruptcy and reorganization lawyer needs to be trained in many different aspects: lawyers should have the awareness and ability to systematically and comprehensively understand and deal with problems. Bankruptcy reorganization is a complex project requiring technical expertise. Additionally, lawyers should have patience and perseverance, so as to respond to common disputes, contradictions and conflicts in bankruptcy dealings. It is this spirit and conviction that has helped Mr. Yang achieve outstanding results, and won him praise from both the legal media and his peers. From 2021 to 2023, Mr. Yang was awarded the “Lawyer of the Year” by the IFLR1000 China Awards, in 2023, he was awarded the first “Outstanding Reorganization Practice Award” by the Beijing Bankruptcy Administrator Association and in 2022, he was named one of ALB China’s 15 Rising Stars.
Mr. Yang participates in the work of bar associations and insolvency administrator associations. As the director of the Bankruptcy and Merger and Acquisition Reorganization Committee of the Beijing Dongcheng District Bar Association and the director of the Beijing Bankruptcy Administrator Association, Mr. Yang has organized his peers to research and study milestones and difficulties in the development of bankruptcy practice and to discuss feasible solutions together. He participates in bankruptcy law teaching and research in his spare time to help students understand bankruptcy practice and inspire their interest in bankruptcy law.
