Mr. Yunfeng (Stephen) Gu joined JunHe’s Shanghai office in 2010. Previously, he worked at the Shanghai office of Perkins Coie LLP. Mr. Gu’s practice focuses on patent prosecution, patent due diligence and patent transactions, covering a variety of technical fields, including petrochemicals, chemical materials, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical devices.
Having worked in IP practice for more than ten years, Mr. Gu has represented many well-known foreign companies, universities and research institutions in their patent activities in China, including patent drafting and prosecution, patent filing and prosecution strategy design, and patent reexamination. He has also represented domestic companies to file patent applications in various countries around the world, designed patent portfolios for inventions and managed the entire patent family in over 50 countries including the U.S., Europe, Canada, Japan, South Korea and Israel.
Mr. Gu is experienced in intellectual property assignment and licensing, especially for patents, patent applications and know-how. He has participated in numerous projects related to corporate mergers and acquisitions, investments, and research cooperation, representing domestic and foreign companies to negotiate for patents and know-how assignments and licenses. Mr. Gu has provided legal opinions and advised on the technology export and import related to assignments and licenses, drafted assignment and license agreements and registered agreements for patents in different countries and regions. He provides domestic and foreign companies with one-stop legal consulting services for intellectual property assignments and licenses from the negotiation stage through to the agreement registration stage.
Mr. Gu has also provided legal services for several Chinese start-ups to establish intellectual property protection systems, including preparing confidential policies, the disclosure of invention rules, the invention renumeration and reward regulations, intellectual property ownership agreements, employee manuals relating to intellectual property and training employees in IP protection.
Mr. Yunfeng (Stephen) Gu graduated from Shanghai Normal University with a master’s degree in analytical chemistry, a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a bachelor’s degree in English.
