Mr. Chi (Austin) Zhang joined JunHe’s Shanghai Office in 2014 and practices in the areas of cross-border asset management, financial markets and derivatives, securities investment funds and financial markets compliance and regulatory advisory services. Mr. Zhang has a wealth of experience in advising global asset managers, international investment banks, prime brokers, hedge funds, proprietary trading firms and market makers in structuring access routes to trade in China’s financial markets via QFII/RQFII, Stock Connect, Bond Connect, CIBM Direct and the trading of specific futures products opened to foreign participants.
Mr. Zhang has represented numerous foreign-invested fund managers in their WFOE private fund manager (“PFM”) registration, applications for QDLP/QDIE/QFLP qualification and quotas and multiple private fund launch projects. He is also well versed in China’s financial markets and has provided long-term legal advice to internationally and domestically renowned financial institutions (including commercial banks, securities firms, mutual fund management companies and futures brokers) and several PRC financial market infrastructures.
Mr. Zhang has advised many domestic financial authorities, industry associations, exchanges and clearing houses on relevant laws, rules and policies, and has been deeply involved in legal research and advice for legislation in the asset management and derivatives sectors. In addition, he has experience in providing legal advice to foreign-invested enterprises in responding to CSRC’s compliance investigations, onsite inspections and administrative procedures.
In 2015, Mr. Zhang was seconded to Shanghai Clearing House.
