Recently, Shanghai Healthcare Capital (“SHC”) completed an investment in Virtus Medical Holding Limited (“Virtus Medical”), a leading private specialist service provider in Hong Kong. The investment was part of a new round of financing of Virtus Medical, which was led by SHC, along with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Shanghai MediTrust Health Technology Co. Ltd. JunHe advised SHC as its mainland China and HK counsel in the project.
Authorized by the Shanghai Municipal Government and founded by Shanghai Industrial Investment (Holdings) Co., Ltd, SHC was established in December 2020 with a total targeted assets under management of RMB 50 billion. SHC utilized Shanghai’s industrial resources to create a leading innovative investment platform in the life science industry based in Shanghai and Hong Kong, with strong links to the Yangtze River Delta and the world. This enabled Shanghai to establish a top tier biomedical research, development and manufacturing center. SHC is focused on breakthrough biologics, innovative chemical drugs, high-end medical devices and diagnostics, and innovative business platforms, through the integration of its capital and industrial resources and its international and domestic operations.
Established in 2018, Virtus Medical is a leading private specialist service provider in Hong Kong, servicing areas such as urology and pediatrics. Virtus Medical has an elite team of more than 60 specialists, 40 general practitioners and other medical personnel. Its current shareholders include GIC, Cenova Capital and Samena Capital.
