Mr. Yi (Johnny) Zhang focuses his practice on US-China cross border intellectual property matters, with particular emphasis on patent portfolio strategy and management. He is experienced in patentability, infringement and freedom-to-operate analysis under Chinese and US laws and has drafted and negotiated several US-China cross border IP license agreements. Mr. Zhang has extensive experience in intellectual property due diligence investigation during US-China cross border strategic investment and mergers & acquisitions. His work involves technologies in the fields of life sciences, chemistry, material science, medical devices, robotics and autonomous driving.
Before starting his legal career, Mr. Zhang had over a decade of experience in life science research. His prior legal experience includes a summer clerkship at Dechert LLP and an internship at Strain& Strain PLLC.
Mr. Zhang graduated from Fudan University with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Biology. He then obtained a Doctor of Philosophy, in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) from Iowa State University and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Georgetown University Law Center.
Mr. Zhang is a registered patent attorney at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and a patent agent in China.
