Mr. Zhu has over 24 years of practice experience in representing multinational companies in cross-border mergers and acquisitions (including inbound and outbound investments), energy and power (including thermal power, hydro-power, wind, solar, and solid waste incineration projects), infrastructure projects (including toll roads, water treatment and port projects), regulatory matters (approvals and permits, EHS, anti-trust and national security review), and international business transactions/expansions in Mainland China and Hong Kong. He is also spearheading the firm’s environmental practice. His recent power experience includes representing First Solar, Cleanergy, SunEdison/TerraForm, and Third Step in developing and acquiring renewable power projects in China.
Prior to joining JunHe in 2004, Mr. Zhu represented a number of international power developers, such as AES, Coastal Power, Entergy, CEA and Enron in the late 1990’s in the development of a number of greenfield thermal power joint venture projects throughout China. He also spent over 13 years practicing in New York, Singapore and Hong Kong with the energy and project finance groups of major U.S. law firms, such as Chadbourne & Parke, Skadden Arps, Hunton & Williams. In 1990, he had interned at CJ International, a Korean law firm, in Seoul, Korea.
Mr. Zhu has been recognized by various legal publications such as Chambers Asia and The Asia Pacific Legal 500 as one of the leading transactional lawyers in China. The latest editions of these legal directories noted, “[George Zhu is recognized as] a market-leading practitioner for projects and infrastructure work” and a “talented project adviser”.
